Hot Tub World Records
Ever wonder how many hot tub world records exist? People around the globe have found some creative and bizarre ways to demonstrate their love for hot tubs, often resulting in world records that are both impressive and fun. Here, we explore some of the most fascinating hot tub-related achievements from around the world, including those that involve the world’s biggest hot tubs, longest soaks, and unusual hot tub feats.
Most Nationalities in a Hot Tub
In November 2012, a Spanish store called the Jacuzzi Outlet set a unique record by cramming twenty-six people representing twenty-six different countries into a single hot tub for five minutes. This remarkable event earned the title of the most nationalities in a Jacuzzi, and it remains unchallenged. Although the hot tub wasn’t the biggest in the world, it managed to comfortably hold a diverse group of participants, showing how a simple hot tub can unite people from all over the globe.
Fastest Hot Tub Car
Taking the idea of a mobile spa to a whole new level, two Canadian car enthusiasts, Phillip Weicker and Duncan Forster, transformed a 1969 Cadillac DeVille into a hot tub on wheels. Dubbed the "Carpool DeVille," this vehicle was equipped with a watertight steering column, a liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger, and a fiberglass tank that could heat the water to 102°F in just 35 minutes. In August 2014, the duo drove their hot tub car at a record-breaking speed of 54.8 mph (88.19 km/h) on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, setting the record for the fastest hot tub car.
Longest Time Spent in a Hot Tub
Another notable hot tub world record was set by Andre van Zijl, a man who has broken over 39 world records in his lifetime. In June 2013, van Zijl embarked on a unique mission—to spend two weeks in a hot tub at a shopping mall, all while wearing a wetsuit. His goal? To raise awareness and funds for children living with HIV/AIDS. After spending an impressive 12.5 days—300 hours!—in the hot tub, he earned his spot in the record books for one of the longest continuous soaks. Although it wasn’t in the largest hot tub in the world, van Zijl’s dedication and perseverance certainly made waves in the hot tub community. In case it wasn’t obvious: Don’t try this at home!
Beauty Luxury's 12-Meter Hot Tub
According to The Daily Mail, one of the largest hot tubs in the world, created by Italian company Beauty Luxury, is an impressive 12 meters long and costs around $73,000. The massive tub is divided into two sections: one designed for exercise, allowing swimmers to work against a current and burn up to 400 calories an hour, and another for relaxation. The relaxation section seats up to six people and features a steady flow of hot water. The tub also includes luxury features like chromotherapy lights, a waterfall, and an integrated audio system. Designed for both fitness and relaxation, this big hot tub represents the height of aquatic luxury and comfort.
Competing Claim for the World's Largest Hot Tub
Geolagoon, a Canadian company, is gearing up to create the world’s largest thermal lagoon in Charlevoix, Quebec, spanning an impressive 12,000 square meters. This competitor for the world’s biggest hot tub is designed to keep its waters at a toasty 38°C year-round, thanks to an insulated tank.Surrounding this aquatic marvel will be a village of 300 solar-powered chalets, all inspired by the famous Blue Lagoon in Iceland. The resort aims to be energy self-sufficient, harnessing geothermal, biomass, and solar energy to heat the lagoon.
The development will roll out in stages, kicking off with the construction of 150 chalets for sale or rental. The lagoon will be added in the second phase, followed by another 150 chalets. Besides cozy accommodations, the village will feature art galleries, a ski resort, dining venues, and even whale-watching spots. Keep an eye out for this one!
Largest Cappuccino in a Hot Tub
When you think of hot tubs, cappuccino might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But in September 2012, more than 1,000 baristas in Croatia decided to blend these two concepts, working tirelessly to fill a 2,000-liter (440-gallon) hot tub with cappuccino. Their efforts surpassed the previous record (yes, existing!) by a whopping 455 liters (100 gallons). Though it wasn’t the world’s biggest hot tub by size, it held the title for the largest cappuccino ever made in one. And you thought a Starbucks venti was big?
Mission Hills Haikou: Largest Spa Resort in the World
Not to be outdone, Mission Hills Haikou in Haikou, Hainan, China, is home to the largest spa resort in the world. Spanning an incredible 176,284.14 square meters (1,897,499.1 square feet), this luxurious retreat features 90 treatment rooms, several wellness facilities, and an outdoor aquatic theme park. It also boasts 168 hot and cold springs, as well as large hot tubs set among man-made volcanoes, a swimming pool, and a beach. With the capacity to host over 10,000 guests at a time, Mission Hills Haikou offers one of the most impressive spa experiences in the world. While it may not house the biggest hot tub in the world, the resort's expansive facilities make it a hot spot for relaxation and pampering.
Largest Naked Gathering in a Hot Tub
In August 1990, the Paradise Lakes Resort in Florida set the stage for one of the most memorable hot tub world records. Known as America’s "Premier Naturist Resort" at the time, they managed to fit 307 naked people into a single hot tub. This record still stands as one of the more unusual entries in the world of hot tub feats. It was certainly one of the biggest gatherings of people in one tub—clothing optional!
Crossing the Strait of Georgia in a Hot Tub Boat
In an attempt to set a new hot tub world record, a group of four friends from Vancouver built a floating hot tub boat with the intention of crossing the Strait of Georgia. The project began as a joke, but soon turned into a serious community effort. After acquiring a free hot tub via Craigslist, the group spent 18 months making the boat seaworthy, complete with a motor, propane heater, and even a pig roaster for on-board barbecues. Their goal was to set a distance record for the longest hot tub boat crossing. Although they faced challenges due to rough weather conditions, the group remained determined, waiting for the perfect calm day to make their official attempt.
These hot tub world records showcase the many imaginative and record-breaking ways people have used hot tubs, from large gatherings and fast cars to floating spa boats and the largest spa resort in the world. Whether it’s about creating the world’s largest hot tub, crossing bodies of water in a tub, or setting up the fastest hot tub, people’s creativity with these big hot tubs never ceases to amaze.
