Winterizing your hot tub

It's coming; snow, ice, below-freezing temperatures. Yes, like it or not, winter is on its way. Which means it's time to get your hot tub ready for winter, also known as winterizing it. While hot tubs are perfect for warm relaxation in the winter, many choose to close their hot tubs for the season. Maybe they go away for winter, or maybe they just want to save some money and energy. Whatever the reason, we have the guide you need to winterize your hot tub.Winter

Before you do anything to your hot tub, make sure to turn off the power. Once that's done, flush your hot tub's plumbing system and drain the tub. Most hot tubs allow you to attach a hose to the drain spout, to send the water elsewhere.

Remove all your filters and clean them. Make sure that the filters are clean before you store them for the winter. Any dirt or grime left over the winter can cause serious damage and may result in you replacing the filter.

Even the smallest amount of water left over can cause damage. To make sure all excess water is removed, loosen fittings and drain any left over water in the plumbing system. Then run a wet-dry vac through the hot tub jets. This will remove any little bit of water left over.

Like the filters, if there is dirt left over the winter, it can cause damage to the lining. This is also a good time to clean your hot tub cover and apply a protective solution for the winter. Lock it into a secure position to minimize the chances of weather damage.

Finally, inspect the area around your hot tub. Winter winds and storms can blow things around in your yard. To make sure nothing damages your hot tub, remove any clutter or items that can hit your hot tub in a storm.
