Preparing your hot tub for the cold

It's coming. We can deny it all we want, but winter is just around the corner. Soon it will be time to prepare your hot tub for snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures. But for now, as we move further into fall, let's focus on getting your hot tub ready for cooler weather.

The temperature has already begun to drop, so time is of the essence. Protecting your hot tub from cold weather is not too difficult, but it will make the winter preparations a little easier.

Hot Tub Cover

First thing's first, check your hot tub cover. Make sure it's not heavy, water-logged or worn out. A good-quality hot tub cover will protect the water in your hot tub from the cold temperatures and wind that come along with fall.

Filters

Now is a good time to check your filters to see if they need to be cleaned or replaced. Clean filters will ensure your hot tub maintains proper temperature more efficiently. The last thing you want is your hot tub struggling to keep warm in the cool air. This could result in possible damage down the road, which could end up costing you. Keep your filters clean, and your water will stay warm.

Cleaning

Before it gets too cold out, give your hot tub a thorough clean. This keeps you from having to do it when it's even colder. Much like the filters, a clean hot tub runs efficiently and maintains temperature easily. Save stress now and you will save problems later.

Lights

Long nights make for more relaxing nights in the hot tub, making hot tub owners very happy in the fall. But complete darkness isn't enjoyable for anyone. Make sure your hot tub is well lit both in and around the tub itself. This will make navigating to and from the hot tub easier. Nothing ruins a night in the hot tub more than stubbed toes. Not to mention, you will be able to see while in the hot tub; always helpful.

So with a few little steps, you will help your hot tub function in the cold weather. When it comes time to get ready for winter, you will be one step ahead of the game.
