Lose Weight With Your Hot Tub

Men and women are under increased pressure to look good and stay fit, so it should come as no surprise people are turning to hot tubs in the quest to lose weight. While some may view this as another weight loss fad, there are a few potential ways to shed unwanted pounds with the help of your backyard spa.

Heat Before Sleep

Sleep deprivation is a major contributor to weight gain. Eve Van Cauter, Director of the Sleep, Metabolism and Health Centre at the University of Chicago noted, “There is no doubt that insufficient sleep promotes hunger and appetite, which can cause excessive food intake resulting in weight gain”. Studies have shown people who lack sufficient sleep consume more than 300 extra calories every day, namely from high-fat foods. In an effort to promote the need for a good night sleep, health care professionals are recommending a warm bath or hot tub soak before bed. Next time you struggle to catch your zzzzz’s, try a hot tub soak before you hop into bed. It might just help you avoid weight gain from superfluous calories.

Soak Before Eating

Want to avoid consuming excess calories? It turns out your hot tub has the ability to diminish your appetite. Thanks to the hot water temperature, soaking in a hot tub mimics exercise as your metabolism speeds up and your circulation increases. If you are trying to lose weight, consider taking a quick dip in your hot tub about 30 minutes before your meal. To further curb your appetite, try drinking an 8-10 ounce glass of ice cold water while you are soaking.

Lose Weight, Wisely

While soaking in a hot tub is not a sure-fire substitute for exercise or eating wisely, there are certainly some benefits to well-timed soaks. If you have heard of any other methods or have hot tub weight loss tips, please share with us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
