How Long is Too Long in the Tub?
After finding this funny picture online, it got us thinking; what is the perfect amount of time to soak in the hot tub?
It can be tempting to socialize in your tub and unwind after a long day of work, but at what point is it time to get out? We are all familiar with the pruned fingertips we get after soaking in the warmth of your spa water for too long. But aside from the humorous-looking, contracted skin on your fingertips, are there any other, more serious risks to staying in the tub for too long?
The main problem with soaking in your spa for too long is dehydration. According to Huffington Post Canada (2012), hot baths and hot tubs can be a significant source of dehydration. It may be hard to believe, but you're sweating in that tub, and your body is losing water. The solution? Keep a large cup of water nearby. By the time you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated, so drink water regularly throughout your spa experience.
In general, it is best to limit your soak time to 15-20 minutes. After this amount of time, exit your spa, and re-enter after cooling off for at least 5-10 minutes. Avoid wrinkly fingertips and, worst of all, dehydration; enjoy your spa responsibly!
