Hot Tub Covers Canada is located in Ontario, Canada. If you've been following the weather reports since late-June, you will know that residents across the province have been coping with one of the "
most extreme heat events" in recent years. In fact, the humidex reached a scorching 47 C in the afternoon on Canada Day. The heat and humidity was enough to keep
Canada Day revellers away from the annual celebrations on
Parliament Hill - that's saying something for us hardy Canucks. So, you might be wondering:
what does the heat wave have to do with hot tubbing? Two things come to mind.
1. Turn Down The What?
First up is the benefit of turning down the temperature in your hot tub. Often called "cool water tubbing", a cool water hot tub can be just as enjoyable as a hot tub, especially during the summer months. By turning down the thermostat to anything lower than the average body temperature (36-37 C), you will be able to kick back and relax on summer's hottest days. And no matter whether you are keeping your hot tub "hot" or "cool" this summer, remember to use a
hot tub cover!
Hot Tub Covers Canada Tip: Whether you opt to soak in a hot or cool water spa, please remember to keep hydrated. Drink plenty of fresh, cold water before entering the tub and keep a cold drink nearby to consume while soaking.
2. Recycle That Water
With summer in full swing, so are the bans: fire bans, water bans. You name it, there are probably restrictions in place to help protect our natural resources and your community-at-large. No matter what part of the country you live in, chances are you are experiencing some form of drought conditions. If Ontario is anything to go by, lawns and forests are much drier than normal, with some areas looking downright arid.
So what should you do if your hot tub is due for a maintenance or water replenishment? Find a creative way to use the existing tub water to help your lawn, garden or flower beds. The catch is making sure the chlorine or bromine levels are low enough (ideally 1 ppm) to not to kill off your greenery!! Need to get your levels to drop fast? One of our customers tells us he removes his hot tub cover, turns on the jets and he lets the high sun do the work. Just like a swimming pool, chemical levels will dissipate quickly on a hot summer's day. Another idea our fans and staff like to suggest is washing cars, boats or storing the used water in rain barrels. While this idea will require a submersible pump, it is entirely doable if you're the type who wants to make the most out of their hot tub water. Finally, hot tub and spa owners with a saltwater chlorinator are in luck! Given that ControlOMatic's salt water systems use less salt than what is found in human tears, the hot tub water is not as harmful as traditional chlorine/bromine to grass, plants, trees and shrubs. Check your saltwater chlorine levels and when low enough, utilize the water to feed your landscape. Do you have any tips, suggestions or ideas on how to recycle hot tub water? We'd love to share your feedback, to help other hot tub owners ensure they are not just throwing water down the driveway unnecessarily.
